Hi, we’re Collette & Karl, and together with our miniature dachshund Winston, we created Dax & Hound Co.
Like most dachshund owners, we quickly discovered that life with a sausage dog is never boring! Whether it’s stopping every few metres for another sniff, digging up the garden, stealing socks or making us laugh every single day, Winston completely stole our hearts.
As we settled into life with Winston, we found ourselves spending hours trying to find products that were actually made with dachshunds in mind. Harnesses didn’t always fit their long bodies properly, toys weren’t built to last, and there wasn’t one place that offered everything we were looking for.
That’s when the idea for Dax & Hound Co. was born.
We wanted to create the kind of shop we wished we’d found when Winston first came home—a place where fellow dachshund owners could shop with confidence, knowing every product had been carefully chosen by people who genuinely understand the breed. But we also wanted to build something more than just an online shop.
We wanted to create a place where dachshund owners could learn, share their experiences, discover new adventures and become part of a friendly community that loves these little dogs just as much as we do..
Meet Winston 🐾
Winston is at the heart of everything we do. He’s curious, cheeky, incredibly stubborn at times and happiest when he’s out on a sniffy walk discovering somewhere new.
A few facts about Winston:
🐾 Age: Nearly 11 months old , full of energy and always ready for his next adventure.
🧸 Favourite Toy: Anything that squeaks… although a stray sock or flipflop will do just as nicely!
🦴 Favourite Treat: Yak chews and natural treats.
😂 Funniest Habit: Every walk turns into a sniffy walk. He’ll happily spend ten minutes investigating one patch of grass before deciding it’s time to move on.
🌿 Favourite Walk: Woodland trails, beaches and anywhere with lots of new smells to explore.
Winston is our biggest product tester. Every harness, toy, treat and accessory we choose gets his approval first. If Winston doesn’t love it, neither do we.
Why We Started
When Winston joined our family, we quickly realised that owning a dachshund comes with its own challenges.
We spent hours researching harnesses that properly supported their long backs, looking for toys that could stand up to determined chewing and trying to work out which products were genuinely worth buying.
There was so much information online, but it was hard to know what was actually suitable for dachshunds.
We wanted advice from people who owned the breed—not generic recommendations.
So we decided to build the kind of brand we’d been looking for ourselves.
A place where every product has been chosen because we’d happily use it with Winston, and where other dachshund owners can shop knowing we’ve already done the research.

At Dax & Hound Co., we’re not interested in filling our website with hundreds of products just for the sake of it.
